Should I be using TikTok Ads?
In a word, yes. TikTok has blown up in a big way, becoming one of the most popular social media networks in the world, which won’t be news to you. But what might be of more interest is that TikTok have a very savvy Ad Centre which enables you to get cost effective campaigns set up, much the same as other paid social media advertising.
Benefits
TikTok allows you to target specific demographics, it allows you to create custom audiences, and it allows you to build lookalike audiences from this and then target them also. It allows you to reach your target audiences with personalised ads, and all of this helps you get the most out of your advertising spend.
TikTok advertising can work well versus other paid social media advertising, because TikTok users tend to be more immersed in the app and short form videos are effective at grabbing and maintaining people’s attention – which means they can be highly engaging. Which is exactly what you want as someone trying to make the most of your advertising budget.
Drawbacks
We all know TikTok is growing, we all know it’s huge, but it definitely isn’t for everyone in terms of the users. Some people are really put off it, and some businesses won’t do as well from it as other more traditional paid social media platforms. As well as this, TikTok does not have the data available to it that other platforms do (because it hasn’t been around as long), and TikTok is more specific in the type of ads that tend to deliver highly – i.e. short form video, which can be harder to create and also harder to get your head around creatively for some business owners who aren’t regular TikTok users. TikTok repeatedly tell advertisers “don’t make ads, make TikToks”.
To Sum Up…
I wouldn’t be recommending that people switch out their entire paid social media budget to TikTok, but there’s no doubt that it provides a lot of opportunities and there are a lot of benefits to using it. We would recommend that for the vast majority of businesses, you should be looking to add TikTok advertising to your paid social media campaigns.
